Meccha Chameleon Online: Join Friends on PC and Switch 2

Play Meccha Chameleon online with Steam PC or Switch 2 friends. Find a room using its five-character join code, with crossplay and custom-map caveats.

Last updated: 2026-10-27

Steam PC and Nintendo Switch 2 players can play Meccha Chameleon together online. Each player needs a copy for their supported device and an internet connection. The developer confirms crossplay; standard maps avoid the unverified MOD-map compatibility described below.

Join a friend's room with a code

  1. Update the game on each device, then have one player host a room on a standard map.
  2. The host reads the room's five-character alphanumeric join code from the game and shares it with the group.
  3. Friends use the game's join-code search and enter the code exactly. Developer update 4.1.0 replaced the legacy server browser with this code-search system.
  4. Confirm that everyone has reached the same room before starting. If the room is full, check the host's displayed capacity rather than assuming every platform has the same limit.

The official notes verify the code format and search behavior. Menu wording may vary by language or version; this guide does not claim a hands-on console test.

Finding a public game

Update 4.1.0 also made region tags required and hid ongoing games from public search by default. Check your search filters and region when a room seems missing. An ongoing room may be absent from the default public results even when it exists; ask your friend for its join code.

For playing with friends, sharing a room code gives the group a specific session to find. Do not assume a Steam-only friend invitation is the cross-platform joining method.

Crossplay and custom maps

The September 9 Switch 2 launch announcement confirms base-game crossplay, but described MOD-map crossplay as a future end-of-year plan. Start on a standard map when mixing PC and Switch 2. We have not verified that plan's delivery or all Workshop-map compatibility. See the crossplay guide for the distinction.

Check the host's room size

The September 16 update 4.1.1 temporarily reduced Switch 2-hosted rooms from 12 to 10 players. This is the documented limit change for that release, not a current universal player-count claim. Use the capacity shown in the host's current game when planning a group.

If a friend cannot join

  • Recheck all five characters of the code with the host.
  • Make sure everyone has updated and is trying to join the same room.
  • Check whether the room is full or a search filter is hiding an ongoing game.
  • Try a standard map if the group mixes PC and Switch 2; a PC Workshop subscription does not establish console compatibility.
  • For other connection errors, use the troubleshooting guide. Do not install unofficial “online fix” downloads.
